One of the paintings first exhibited in the joint show Nicholson had with Ben Nicholson (her husband), Christopher Wood and the potter William Staite Murray at the Beaux Arts.
Shortly before this Winifred had been elected a member of the Seven and Five Society, but the reason she was invited to join is evident in this painting: this is a joyous celebration of the colours of these flowers.
