Mix textures and patterns
This one is easier said that done, but it's key. Choose the right paint colour for your home
Once you have spent a ridiculous amount of time in Pinterest and Instagram searching for inspiration, hopefully you will be able to narrow it down to a few colours or even shades. Whatever you decide, whether is a dramatic deep tone, an old time favourite mid-tone colour or a very discreet light colour, test it! Yes, spend the money in a tester pot and paint cardboard pieces, of at least size A4, and place them on the walls to see how the colours interact in the room, how colour changes with the different light of day and with what you already have (in particular with the things that you cannot or won’t change).
I love to navigate a house using colours on the walls, choosing them wisely you can transition from one room to the next with ease. If you are redecorating an open area, you can use colour to section areas and make it more welcoming and cozy.
Master light layering
I love this simple decorating tip, one of the most understated but certainly one that will achieve more than expensive furniture. Adding different layers of lighting is easy, one layer could be the main lights on the ceiling, another layer could be table or floor lamps if you are decorating a living room or bedroom, or task lighting under your cupboards in the kitchen. Don't forget to add candles to your dining table, but only when dining!
Cut flowers and live plants
Flowers add colour and life to any room, they also allow you to enjoy the seasons. Add big arrangement in the foyers, a jug of cut flowers in the kitchen counter or a small vase in your desk.
In my personal opinion, plants make a house a home. When buying plants keep in mind how much light there is in the room and the average temperature. Not only plants add colour and texture to a room, but also fresh oxygen! 
Upgrade your furniture hardware
From kitchen cupboards, flat packed wardrobes and bathroom cabinets, swapping outdated or dull handles, pulls or knobs for something more modern or classic can quickly update a room in seconds.
Declutter
A tidy home will always look better and more elegant than a messy one. Regardless of your style, whether you love a minimalist or maximalist decor for your home, have a look around and anything that doesn't belong, that is dated, broken, or has no purpose needs to go.
Before you throw away things to the landfill, see if you can find a better home, can be fixed or repurposed. Often objects don't look good anymore in a room but in another get a new life. So before you throw away that painting, mirror, vase or footstool, think twice it can be rescued or simply relocated to a new place.
