Edible Christmas Gift Recipes

A homemade edible gift, whether is something sweet or savoury, comes from a jar or fresh out of the oven, something done in a flash or a true labour of love, is a very thoughtful present that expresses that you care, better than thousands of words ever will.

I have put together a small selection of delicious and easy recipes that I have made myself, and also given as gifts, so I can assure you that they are easy to make especially if you find yourself short of time.  I can also tell you that I have dared to give these gifts to foodie friends and I have received nothing but beautiful feedback and requests for more or for the recipe.

Riciarelli are Italian soft almond treats, covered in icing sugar makes them idilic as a Christmas present, once cooled you only need to place them in a cellophane bag or a small box with a beautiful velvet ribbon to make it look like the most decadent Christmas gift.  There are  a few variations of this recipe, but the one here has been approved over and over by my Italian friends.

Granola is yet another gift that keeps on giving.  Super easy to make, specially if you want to make in large batches.  One of my favourite recipes is the Christmas Granola from The Modern Baker’s cookbook, A New Way to Bake.  Another favourite is Donna Hay’s Gingerbread Granola, the smell of the spices will soon become a tradition in your home.

If savoury is your thing, then look no further but follow Ottolenghi’s simple steps to make the most delicious spicy nuts.  With this, I must warn you, you will be craving for a cocktail as soon as your taste buds get hold of that festival of spices!

And remember, just like dogs, edible gifts are not only for Christmas (or whatever festive season you celebrate), there is something quite unique and personal about an edible gift, and I’ll encourage you to pick one recipe and start spreading the love.
