5 Simple Tips for a Guest Bedroom Refresh

Welcoming friends and family is an opportunity to share our home and time with the people that we love the most.  Every visit gives us an excuse to look into our guest bedroom and refresh it, always keeping in mind the needs and personalities of our guests, but without deviating from our own style and taste.  Remember that when your guests are gone, you want to feel comfortable and proud of that part of the house too.

I have put together a simple and budget friendly decor guide.  Remember that you can use and reuse things that you already have at home, as well as buying new things.  Hope you and your guests enjoy the results.

Artwork

Guest bedrooms are similar to boutique hotel rooms, we can have a bit of fun and break the rules, and by this I mean the design rules.  It’s a great idea to create a gallery wall with a mix of prints, photographs of regional landscape and/or paintings.  I even have a small and cute framed embroidery found in a charity shop that adds a touch of the unexpected and hangs next to photographs and limited edition prints like these ones here.

If you have a wall mounted TV, create a gallery wall around it.  It will distract from the black hole that is the TV.

Add a touch of colour

There is no need to redecorate walls, unless strictly necessary.  Depending on your budget and timeframe, reupholstering a headboard or an ottoman brings not only colour but pattern  and texture into a room.  For a quick refresh changing cushions is without fail an instant refresh.

Fresh flowers

This is one of the most charming ways to say ‘welcome’, add a small bouquet of flowers, or simply a bud or two from the garden with some greenery, an eucalyptus branch is great.  Flowers shows you have taken the time and care for their arrival.

Practical accents

One thing that helps us feel at ease is to have practical things that makes us comfortable, even better if these things are also beautiful.  Think small jewelry trinkets, a small basket with toiletries, or a laundry bag.  Simple things show that you thought about their needs and want them to feel at home.

Something personal

Go personal, think of what your guest like and add something to that room.  If they like reading, add a few books on the bedside table; help them make the most of their stay with maps and guides of local attractions or the best shops; or, my personal favourite, a small box of biscuits or chocolates.

Truffle chocolates to share

I truly hope you find this simple room refresh guide useful, but more importantly I wish you and your guests a great time and wonderful memories.
